Our Vision
“To be a relevant community that brings Jesus to today’s culture”
When we began construction on the new building, we thought that the project should meet two main goals:
1. Be a testimony to our way of being and doing church.
2. Be a tool at the disposition of our vision.
For ICG, it’s important that our building reflect a way of being and a way of ‘doing church’ that is in line with the times. The protestant church in Spain, in general, has not had the means necessary to adequately profess its faith publicly. Not a few churches have acoustic problems that draw complaints from neighbors because they don’t meet municipal standards. The latest case is a well-known Barcelona church that is on the brink of being closed down.
In our area, churches are located in small meeting places, most of which are not very ‘insipiring’ and which are ill suited to receive and welcome newcomers.
Our building project fits perfectly with our vision. We aim to be a “relevant community” because we want to be visible in our city and because we want to strive for excellence. To do that, the place where we develop our faith, and the place where non-believers will encounter it, is a key factor.
We see our building as a tool. In our project, this means two things:
1. Location: ICG’s future building is located in a residential area, just in front of an elementary school, in an isolated lot that eliminates problems with neighbors.
2. Design: Part of our vision is to “bring Jesus to today’s culture”, and in that our building plays an important role. We aim for it to be a tool for integrating people, a place that doesn’t generate physical or emotional barriers for visitors.
Our project has the support of the town hall of Vilanova, which has given us land for the building. Given the high price of land in Spain, a project like this would be impossible without this kind of support. Without doubt, this is one example of being the “relevant community” we’re striving for.
Our church members have financed 60%of the construction.
We need help to pay the remaining 40%.
